The huge commercial success of the Mate60 series in China has given Huawei a boost of confidence, with several media reports stating that Huawei has already begun to stockpile parts and components in preparation for the mass production of the next-generation P70 series of smartphones, which is planned for a 2024 launch.
Huawei has reportedly decided to have the 2024 flagship produced by its supply chain partners, including the maker of the on-screen fingerprint scanning module, but still hasn't disclosed information about the SoC chip. It's not yet clear whether the Huawei P70 will also use the Kirin 9000S, which powers the Mate60 Pro, or a more advanced SoC chip.
According to the revelation, Huawei has already placed orders with Huitian Technology, Zhao Yi Innovation, and Weir Technology. Analysts said that as the price of optical fingerprint recognition modules has recently risen 15-20 percent, or even 30 percent in some cases, Huawei is letting more suppliers compete for orders to get better deals to stay competitive and thus control costs.
This follows reports that Huawei plans to ship 60-70 million smartphones in 2024, double its 2023 shipments. The supply chain has already witnessed Huawei start stocking up on camera modules, panels, PCBs, and other components.
